Vital signs are measurements of your body’s most basic functions (temperature, pulse, breathing, and blood pressure).

Doctors use these measurements to detect and monitor medical problems.

Musculoskeletal problems also have a vital measurement: mobility.

Blood Pressure:

A measure of how well your heart can pump blood through your body. Having high blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, and other problems. Over time blood vessels get damaged by high pressure. Blood pressure can be managed through diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes. 120/80 is a healthy blood pressure measurement.

Mobility:

The most basic function of your musculoskeletal system. Being able to move easily & pain-free through a full range of motion is the equivalent of having 120/80 blood pressure. As your mobility decreases, your risk of injury increases. With limited mobility, your muscles, nerves, and joints are under increasing stress/pressure which eventually causes them to break down.

Measuring:

Limited mobility is the #1 cause of pain, weakness, and degeneration. If you don’t measure, you won’t know your risk until it’s too late. You don’t need symptoms to have high blood pressure or limited mobility. Measuring mobility is vital because then it can be managed before you lose the ability to ski and hike the beautiful mountains of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Stretching & Mobility Work

Mobility won’t improve in unhealthy tissue (with adhesion) by stretching or rubbing it. Limited mobility from adhesion can only be fixed by an expert. Degeneration isn’t reversible, so a problem worth stretching or rubbing is worth getting fixed right. Once adhesion is fixed, stretching and mobility work help keep your tissues healthy.
